ORSC & Agile

ORSC & Agile (1)

Most Agile frameworks bring individuals together as a team to deliver products or services while quickly adapting to the needs of their customers. CRR Global's Organization and Relationship Systems Coaching (ORSC™) methodology enables teams to tap into the full potential of Relationship Systems Intelligence. In this article, we take a closer look at pairing ORSC with Agile.

Leverage the collective intelligence of your Agile team

To succeed in a demanding and highly competitive environment, organizations must draw on the strengths of the entire team to continually improve both process and results. As teams take on greater direct responsibility for results, team coaching is an important element of Agile leadership and consulting.

In a recent survey of Agile coaches, over half express interest in pursuing professional coaching development.

ORSC, the trailblazing systems coaching approach created by CRR Global, is a top choice amongst survey participants. ORSC helps teams to see themselves and the larger organization from a bird’s-eye perspective, so that they can work with emerging patterns and evolve their processes and practices in an intelligent, integrated manner.

Expanding the Agile Skillset

According to the Scrum Alliance Agile Coaching Report, agile consultants are twice as likely to pursue ORSC training compared to any other ICF coaching program. Over 20,000 practitioners around the globe now use ORSC to develop strong relationship.

Agile coaching blends coaching, mentoring, teaching and facilitation with skills from technical, business and transformational domains to empower self-directed teams.

The example below shows how one Agile practitioner's skillset might integrate different approaches to facilitate change.

The ORSC coaching model focuses on leveraging Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI™) to support the team in recognizing its voice, hearing the value in different perspectives held by team members, and working with what is emerging within and around the team.

As teams incorporate ORSC skills into their way of operating, they begin to draw on collective intelligence to find their own creative solutions.

Leaders armed with the Relationship Systems Intelligence (RSI) skillset have the tools they need to cultivate collaborative, resilient teams.

About Agile

  • Agile methodologies emerged in the 1990s as part of an effort among software developers to create fast, iterative and responsive processes.
  • Although Agile is a wide umbrella and has many frameworks, all forms depend on establishing direct lines of communication and shared responsibility.
  • Most Agile processes are focused on improving the feedback cycles to improve the product or processes. Frequent communication and shared responsibility are needed to support team members in this work.

About ORSC

  • ORSC meets the gold standard in coaching programs as the first systems coaching approach to be accredited by the International Coaching Federation.
  • Relationship Systems Intelligence, the principle concept underlying ORSC, develops the awareness of a team as one entity functioning as a whole, rather than a collection of individuals.
  • ORSC provides an array of tools and skills designed to foster effective communication.

The five principles of Relationship Systems Intelligence are at the heart of every CRR Global course.

What does ORSC add to Agile?

  • By enabling the voices across the system to be seen and heard, ORSC supports the development of responsibility held by the group, rather than individuals. Shared responsibility supports faster, more comprehensive processes, moving away from a traditional top-down approach.
  • As more decisions are made by those on the front lines, processes become faster and more comprehensive.
  • All members of the team are valued, and an emphasis is placed on hearing the voices of those at every level.
  • Team members align on shared goals and develop their own strategies for reaching them.
  • Leaders make the transition from a directive role into an approach which allows them to influence rather than command.

What issues can ORSC help Agile teams solve?

  • Resistance to Change - Team members learn to work with and overcome their reluctance to adjust the way they work. The ORSC approach helps build consensus around the need for change, helping to navigate pushback.
  • Role Confusion - Colleagues gain clarity about who is meant to do what as they move away from a hierarchical structure.
  • Micromanagement - If leaders are trying to micromanage despite the emphasis on shared responsibility, team members are able to address the issue and develop more effective processes.
  • Toxic Behaviors - Teams learn to identify and avoid the toxic behaviors of criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling.
  • Miscommunication - Those doing the actual work gain the skills they need to communicate directly with each other and with leadership.
  • Goal Identification - ORSC supports teams in aligning on what they want to accomplish and envisioning a path to get there.

The ORSC Training Process

Training in Organization and Relationship Systems Coaching involves completing a series of courses, which can be followed by certification. You start with ORSC Fundamentals. This two-day workshop gives you a solid understanding of this ground-breaking coaching system. You will discover the five key ORSC tools, which you can immediately apply to your work.

After the Fundamentals course you’ll continue with the Intermediate course. A four-part training program that completes your mastery of Organization and Relationship Systems Coaching. It expands on key concepts you learn during the introductory ORSC Fundamentals cours and is the upper-level training for ORSC certification. The ORSC Intermediate course can also be booked modularly!
