At the first Inspire & Connect Event of Competence Training Institute we explored the Co-Active Leadership Model in workshop sessions. The participants explored how they can lead with presence and impact, at work and in life implementing the different leadership dimensions. Co-Active Leadership invites all of us to share our expertise and allows collaborative solutions to emerge that would never have been possible otherwise.
The underlying paradigm is: Every one is a leader. Independent of role or function.
Every dimension consists of a ‘being component’ and a ‘doing component’. Leadership has more impact when both the ‘being’ as well as the ‘doing’ of leadership is addressed. You always have impact. You choose whether it is conscious or unconscious.
Leader Within | the Leader Within is infrastructure—that strong foundation which is always present and informs your leadership. It is about Self-Acceptance (Viewing yourself with compassion and love) and Self-Authority (taking a stand for what you have to offer).
Leader in the Field | the leader in the field offers the capability to read the micro space (a room full of people) and the macro space (what comes into your awareness from your/our world). This capability is always present. It is about Intuition (be the antenna) and innovation (name it) and letting go.
Leader Behind | a Leader Behind is committed to empowering and calling forth the brilliance of other people and serving them, in service of the bigger goal. It is about serving and empowering.
Leader in Front | a Leader in Front has a vision, whilst staying connected with the people that they are leading. It is a vulnerable place with an open heart. It is about direction and connection.
Leader Beside | Leaders Beside are committed to leaning into their coleader 100 percent and leveraging each other’s strengths so that a remarkable synergy occurs. It is about partnership and synergy.
With a better understanding of when you are creative and when you get triggered and show up in a reactive mode, you can learn how to authentically step into different dimensions of leadership.

Angelique van Dam is an expert in leadership development and coaching. Angelique is CTI faculty member and facilitates for Competence the Co-Active Leadership Experience programs. With her background in healthcare as a family physician and a foundation in Gestalt psychotherapy and neuroscience she brings body and mind together in a fun and practical way.
